The Piedmont Down Syndrome Support Network is an
advocacy organization that serves to enhance lives
of individuals with Down syndrome and to provide
information and support to families and professionals.
The PDSSN reaches out to new families, provides
educational and social opportunities for our existing
members, and educates the community to promote awareness,
respect, and inclusion of persons with Down syndrome. Purposes: Providing information, educational opportunities,
and support for families with individuals with Down
syndrome.
Promoting public awareness and better understanding
of Down syndrome, its problems, its possibilities,
and its developments in education, and treatment.
Insisting that appropriate programs for people
with Down syndrome are available in all aspects
of their lives, including education, recreation,
worship, employment, and independent living.
Protecting and promoting the rights of people
with Down syndrome.
Promoting the training of competent and sensitive
personnel to aid in the education, care, treatment,
and hiring of individuals with Down syndrome.
Addressing social policy issues and promoting
research into areas that will enhance the quality
of life and improve treatment for individuals with
Down syndrome.
