The non-profit Piedmont Down Syndrome Support Group provides support and information to parents of children with Down syndrome in the Piedmont area. Our aim is to support each other and enrich the lives of our children so they may reach their fullest potential. Our group meets periodically to encourage and strengthen each other, by striving to increase our knowledge, understanding and hope about Down syndrome. We host guest speakers and share new information, ideas and advice to become better advocates to our children.
People who read this are generally parents, friends or helpers in the world of Down Syndrome. Our network is a developing organization. There is always more to learn and to share and new members help. The Piedmont Down Syndrome Support Network is a support, educational, and advocacy organization. We meet about four times a year. We offer support to each other in our journeys with special needs. That support is more than social gatherings. It is quick phone numbers, interesting articles, experience with state and national organizations, a late night shoulder to cry on, or a hospital visit. It is dealing with bus drivers and teachers, understanding medical procedures, and social services and working with loveable but stubborn kids who become your teachers for the rest of your life.
